Stowa Flieger Verus Black Forest Lagoon: New Pilot’s Watch With Unusual Dial
With the Flieger Verus Black Forest Lagoon, Stowa presents a new timepiece from the modern Verus collection. The watch features a 40 mm ‘Black Forest’ case and a unique dial design inspired by the Blautopf in Baden-Württemberg. Despite its name, the Black Forest is not only known for its dark surroundings but also for its strikingly blue waters. The watch interprets the Baumuster A dial with black but shiny numerals and minute markers, complemented by intense turquoise highlights. These include the triangular marker at 12 o’clock, the hand set, and an optional date. With these characteristics, the Flieger Verus Black Forest Lagoon offers a new perspective on the classic pilot’s watch.
Case
The case of the Flieger Verus Black Forest Lagoon has a diameter of 40 mm and a height of 10.2 mm. It is made of stainless steel with a black coating, giving it a robust appearance. This ‘Black Forest’ case has been known to Stowa connoisseurs for some time and is an homage to the region where the company is based. The glass is scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, ensuring durability and resistance to scratches. The case back is screwed down, providing water resistance of up to 5 ATM. However, this means the watch is not suitable for diving or swimming. The band width is 20 mm, and lug-to-lug distance is 48.6 mm, which contributes to comfortable wearability.
Dial
The dial of the Flieger Verus Black Forest Lagoon is inspired by the landscape around the Black Forest, particularly the Blautopf. It features a large matt black surface adorned with black but shiny numerals and minute markers. The triangular marker at 12 o’clock and the hands are highlighted in an intense turquoise (Pantone 3242C), adding a vibrant contrast to the otherwise monochrome dial. Notably, there is an option to have a logo on the dial, also in turquoise. The hour markers and numerals are coated with Superluminova black, making them glow in a slight blue colour in the dark. The hands are applied with SLN P3242C/LE Grade A, luminous blue, ensuring optimal readability even in low light conditions.
Movement
The Flieger Verus Black Forest Lagoon is powered by the Swiss automatic movement Sellita SW 200. There are two versions available: the basic version and the top version, with the latter featuring better finishing and chronometer-standard performance. An optional handwound movement Sellita SW 210 is also available, but only in the top version. Each movement variant also offers an optional date window, adding to the watch’s practicality. The choice of high-quality components ensures durability and reliability, hallmarks of a good pilot’s watch. Despite the use of Swiss movements, each watch is assembled in Pforzheim, Germany, and bears the ‘Made in Germany’ label.
Strap
The Flieger Verus Black Forest Lagoon comes with a black aviator strap without rivets. This type of strap is reminiscent of the straps used in aviation history and offers both comfort and durability.
Price and Availability of the Flieger Verus Black Forest Lagoon
The Flieger Verus Black Forest Lagoon is available now. The price varies depending on the movement chosen: 1,090.00 € for the base automatic, 1,220.00 € for the top automatic, and 1,240.00 € for the top handwound. These prices are competitive, especially considering the quality of materials and craftsmanship that come with the ‘Made in Germany’ label.
