Panerai Luminor Tre Giorni PAM01628: An Homage to the Brand’s History
With the Luminor Tre Giorni PAM01628, Panerai presents a new watch that pays homage to the brand’s historical roots. The watch features a robust 47mm case, a vintage-inspired dial, and a manual movement. It embodies the brand’s commitment to blending tradition with modern innovation. Let’s take a closer look at the features of this timepiece.
Case
The case of the Luminor Tre Giorni PAM01628 is made of patina steel, a material that gives the watch an aged appearance. This finish is achieved through hand-applied techniques, reminiscent of the natural wear on vintage Panerai watches. The dimensions are substantial, with a diameter of 47mm, reflecting the design of the watches used by Italian commandos. The matte finish reduces glare and enhances readability, a crucial feature for a tool watch. The steel bezel contrasts with the brushed steel elements of the bridge, lever, and buckle, adding texture and depth. The watch is water-resistant up to 10 bar (approximately 100 meters), having undergone rigorous testing to ensure it meets Panerai’s standards. The see-through sapphire crystal on the back allows for a view of the movement.
Dial
The dial of the Luminor Tre Giorni PAM01628 features a grey grained sandwich with a black gradient. The beige Super-LumiNova indicators ensure maximum legibility, even in low-light conditions. The sandwich construction, a hallmark of Panerai since the late 1930s, consists of two superimposed plates, with the lower one filled with luminous material. This design was originally created for the underwater commandos, who needed reliable timekeeping in dark conditions. The vintage-inspired aesthetics of the dial, combined with the practical functionality, reflect Panerai’s commitment to its heritage.
Movement
At the heart of the Luminor Tre Giorni PAM01628 is the P.3000 calibre, a manually wound movement. This movement is notable for its robustness and reliability, characteristics that are essential for a tool watch. The large 11.7mm balance wheel operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour, ensuring precision and stability. The traversing balance bridge adds to the durability. The movement measures 37.2mm in diameter and is visible through the transparent case back. The design draws from Panerai’s archival movements from the 1960s, featuring open bridges that provide a clear view of the mechanics. The finishing is clean and utilitarian, reflecting the practical needs of the military divers who first used these instruments. The power reserve is three days, thanks to two barrels.
Strap
The Luminor Tre Giorni PAM01628 comes with a dark brown calf leather strap that has contrasting beige stitching. This vintage-effect strap complements the watch’s aesthetics and adds to its rugged appeal. A trapezoidal brushed steel pin buckle secures the strap. Additionally, a black rubber strap is included, offering an alternative for those who prefer a sportier look or need a more durable option for water activities.
Price & Availability
The Luminor Tre Giorni PAM01628 will be available from January 2025 at Panerai boutiques. The price of the watch is 10,700 Euro.
