Porsche Design Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition: All-White Dial For The Iconic Chronograph 1
Porsche Design has unveiled the Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition. This limited edition of 136 pieces features an all-white dial coated with Super-LumiNova, a first for the Chronograph 1. The watch celebrates the F.A.T. International motorsport community which goes back to historic success of French logistics company F.A.T. International at the 1994 24 Hours of Le Mans with the legendary Porsche 962. Revived by Ferdi Porsche, F.A.T. International has since evolved into a global motorsport community, uniting Porsche enthusiasts through exclusive events like the F.A.T. Ice Race and the Mankei gathering at the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. The watch comes with a proprietary flyback chronograph and features many details referencing the connection to Porsche and F.A.T.
Case: A Tribute to the Porsche 962
The case of the Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition is made of ultra-light titanium and coated with matte black titanium carbide. This choice of materials reflects the aerodynamic design and matte carbon fibre surface of the Porsche 962. The dimensions are typical of the Chronograph 1, with a diameter of 40.80 mm and a height of 14.15 mm. The crown and pushers are also made of titanium with black coating, ensuring durability. Water resistance is rated at 10 bar, making the watch suitable for recreational activities. The sapphire crystal has sevenfold anti-reflective coating on both sides, providing clear visibility from all angles. The case back is made of titanium and features engravings of the Porsche 962 silhouette and the limited edition number.
Dial: Maximum Luminosity and Hidden Details
The dial of the Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition is a standout feature, coated entirely with white Super-LumiNova. The material ensures optimal readability in low-light conditions, making it ideal for endurance racing. Black indices, numbers, and hands contrast sharply against the white background, while the iconic red stop-seconds hand adds a pop of colour. However, the dial also reveals hidden details in the dark, such as the silhouette of the Porsche 962 on the hour counter. The subdial at 6 o’clock discreetly displays the vehicle name and the F.A.T. International logo to the right. Additionally, the English day display replaces the usual abbreviations for Saturday and Sunday with “F.A.T.” in the brand’s signature red, filling every weekend with motorsport thrill. Overall, the dial combines functionality with aesthetic appeal, staying true to F.A. Porsche’s design philosophy.
Movement: Precision and Functionality
Inside the Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition beats the Porsche Design calibre WERK 01.240. Developed in collaboration with Concepto, the movement is manufactured exclusively for Porsche Design. Though its design is based on the renowned Valjoux 7750 architecture, each movement undergoes in-house quality control and COSC performance verification before being assembled into Porsche Design timepieces. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and has a power reserve of 48 hours. The flyback function allows for simultaneous stopping, resetting, and restarting of the chronograph, making it particularly useful for timing laps on the racetrack. The winding rotor is decorated with the Porsche Design logo. Like all Porsche Design timepieces, this watch is crafted in the brand’s manufactory in Solothurn, Switzerland.
Straps: Robust and Elegant For Every Occasion
The Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition comes with two straps. The first is a matte black titanium bracelet that echoes the design of the original Chronograph 1 from 1972. The bracelet features a folding clasp with fine adjustment, ensuring a comfortable and secure fit. The second strap is a white textile strap with the F.A.T. Ice Race badge and a Velcro fastener. This strap is designed for extreme conditions and can be easily worn over racing suits or ski outfits. Additionally, customers receive a purple textile-and-leather strap inspired by the interior design of the F.A.T. Mankei hut and featuring the GPS coordinates of that location. The strap also features historical Porsche Design lettering and a titanium pin buckle with black coating. All straps are equipped with a quick-change mechanism, allowing for easy and tool-free swapping.
