W&W 2025: World Record – Bulgari Launches Thinnest Tourbillon Watch
Amongst other things, Bulgari specialises in ultra-thin watches. With the Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon, the brand has now set its tenth world record in this field in the last eleven years: the thinnest mechanical watch with a tourbillon.
Heralding its first appearance at Watches and Wonders 2025, Bulgari is presenting this extraordinary watch, which is only 1.85 mm thick. The Italian luxury brand has thus beaten the record set by Piaget in 2024: at 2 mm, their Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon was the thinnest watch with this complication to date.
With this new model, Bulgari is also building on the first record-breaking model from 2014. At the time, the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon calibre set a new standard with a height of 1.95 mm. Today, the technological progress is clear: the current model, including the case, is thinner than the tourbillon movement alone.
A technical masterpiece
The new watch is skeletonised – an additional challenge, especially for extremely flat movements that are already at the limits of stability. Thanks to the ingenious design of the movement plate, Bulgari is also able to dispense with a separate dial. Another special feature: the time display has been redesigned so that hours and minutes are shown together again. This improves readability compared to previous models, in which hours and minutes were displayed on separate dials.
The previous and the new model
The centrepiece is the BVF 900 hand-wound calibre, which operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 42-hour power reserve despite its low height.
The baseplate is made of extremely hard tungsten carbide and also serves as the case back. The bezel, case middle section and lugs are made of bead-blasted titanium. There is no crown – instead, the watch operates via two wheels on the sides of the case: while the wheel on the right is used to set the time, the wheel on the left winds the movement.
In terms of design, Bulgari has opted for a modern look with sophisticated details: most of the wheels feature a circular cut, while the control wheels and the barrel have an engraved, radial decoration. To increase the contrast, the hands have been polished and rhodium-plated, while the bridges have been bead-blasted and given a dark grey DLC coating. This makes it easier to read the time.
Design inspired by Roman architecture
The stepped octagonal case of the Octo Finissimo is inspired by the coffered ceiling of the Maxentius Basilica in Rome. Bulgari combines this historical reference with a puristic, avant-garde design language that clearly stands out from traditional watch aesthetics. The integrated bead-blasted titanium bracelet is also ultra-thin at just 1.5 millimetres, with a folding clasp.
Price and availability
The number 20 engraved on the wheel for setting the time hints at the fact that Bulgari will only produce 20 Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillons. The price is 750,000 EUR.

At Watches and Wonders 2025, Tudor is turning a new page – while remaining true to its proven strengths. Among this year’s novelties are the Pelagos Ultra, offering an impressive water resistance of 1,000 metres; the Black Bay 68 – an entirely new model with a 43-millimetre case; and an updated version of the Black…
The Maison Jaeger-LeCoultre not only develops and produces sophisticated movements and complications (around 1.250 own calibres) in their manufacture in Le Sentier, but they also cherish the craftsmanship in terms of decorating movement parts, plates and dials. The most qualified artisans of their craft are joined in the manufacture's own Atelier “Métiers Rares” and with a…
A famous Italian track near Sant’Agata Bolognese (not far from the Lamborghini headquarter) had been temporarily closed for us to be able to enjoy the adrenaline rush of some Lamborghini super cars (Huracán Performante and Aventador S)! But not enough – the gala dinner afterwards was held right in the middle of the production lines…
The TUDOR Black Bay 58: the Black Bay’s old-school, slightly smaller sibling. Following its introduction in 2018, the watch returned to the limelight last year when TUDOR released its acclaimed navy blue version. Both versions certainly have legions of faithful fans – but for me, the original still prevails. If Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf were…
Collecting is certainly more of a journey than a destination as tastes, among other things, change over time. One thing which changes significantly, yet is scarcely talked about, is the underlying motive for making a purchase. At the beginning, starting out with little knowledge, you tend to make a purchase based on one sole factor:…
As a somewhat seasoned purveyor of the watch industry by now, I would personally assert that Vacheron Constantin’s Les Cabinotiers is one of the absolute highest watchmaking departments on the planet. Over the years, the Swiss horology house’s unique creations division has produced some of the most complex watches of all time, blending groundbreaking horological…
The French language sounds just as pretty like a chanson from Edith Piaf. A rather uncharming word like ‘cow horns’ turns in French into an elegant ‘Cornes de Vache’. This example is not chosen by accident: it is the nickname of a very special watch from Vacheron Constantin, that in 1955 appeared by the simple…
During our last conversation a couple of months ago, CEO Georges Kern could hardly keep his cool as, bursting with pride, he gushed over Breitling's 2021 novelties – without revealing anything, of course. As we are now finding out, his excitement was fully justified. This year, the Premier collection is extending to include six new…
Editor Catherine Bishop takes the new Panerai Luminor Due Luna editions for a spin. The watches mark the first time that the Luminor Due has integrated a complication – and what better way to start than with a moonphase? New moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, third quarter, waning crescent…
The latest novelties from watch manufacture Bell & Ross have been rather elaborate. Now, they go back to basics for what a watch is originally made for – telling us the time. And to add some more comfort on that function, Bell & Ross has put focus on its readability, not only during daylight, but also in the pitch…
Swisswatches attended the launch of the new TUDOR Ranger in London back in July, and it was everything you’d hope for: ambassador David Beckham enthused about the tale behind the watch, guests drank smoothies out of ice cubes, and an Oxford scientist spoke enthusiastically about the importance of the British North Greenland Expedition. Since the…
As was the case last year, the 2020 CODE 11.59 by Audemars Piguet line breaks numerous boundaries, but everyone knows that when it comes to Audemars Piguet, the line still isn't the star of the show. But does that mean it can't become an iconic part of the watchmaker's portfolio in the future? Audemars Piguet…
Looking back at the past with a sense of longing, yet always pushing forwards – that seems to be a part of human nature. Whether in fashion or art, architecture or engineering, both factors drive us in life. But when it comes to both the automotive and watch industries, this balancing act between the cultivation…
