In celebration of its tenth anniversary, Laurent Ferrier is introducing a new, classical timepiece – the Classic Origin Opaline. Housed in a Grade 5 titanium case, it follows a pure design code, featuring an uncluttered white-silver opaline dial and a light brown Barbialla calf leather strap. According to the brand, the latest model is designed at individuals who value “sobriety and virtue”.
The commemorative watch is housed in a 40 mm Grade 5 titanium case, which, according to the horology house, helps to create a classic timepiece that is more “youthful”. Furthermore, it marks the first time that Laurent Ferrier has used Grade 5 titanium. The alloy is known for being light-weight, corrosion-resistant, and hypoallergenic. Additionally, the case features the maison‘s “ball-shaped” crown, which is also titanium, and helps to allow for ease of adjustment.
Meanwhile, the silver-white opaline dial is simple, featuring thin 18-carat white gold indices. Likewise, the hour and minute hands are 18-carat white gold, and are “Assegai-Shaped” – with an assegai being a kind of slender wooden spear from Southern Africa. By contrast, small seconds are displayed at 6 o’clock, and the hand is baton-shaped. Finally, the tiny numerals of the slate grey hour circle around the flange are burgundy in colour.
Notably, the watch uses a brand new movement; the hand-wound Calibre LF 116.01, which is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. This mechanical movement is equipped with a free-sprung balance and a Breguet overcoil (meaning the outer coil is bent up inwards and attached near the balance staff). The latter helps to achieve isochronism, by which vibrations happen evenly, helping to make the movement more precise. Additionally, the movementintegrates the brand’s long-blade ratchet system, which provides both a feeling, as well as an audible sound, when winding the watch. On this note – the Classic Origin Opaline has a maximum power reserve of 80 hours, and beats at a frequency of 3 Hz.
Finally, the Classic Origin Opaline costs 28,500 Swiss francs, and comes on a light brown Barbialla calf leather with Alcantara lining, operated with a Grade 5 titanium pin buckle.
