OMEGA is updating the Seamaster 300, which was launched in 2014 to bring the 1957 original back to life. Now, three new variants are being released that stick to the basic concept but break new ground in some details. In addition to two models with steel cases, OMEGA presents a completely new variant with a case made of an exclusive bronze-gold alloy.
OMEGA Seamaster 300 with steel case
As with its predecessor, the case measures 41 mm in diameter, but the overall height has now been reduced to 13.85 mm. OMEGA remains true to the angular lines with flat surfaces and has dispensed with crown protection. What is new, however, is the conical crown and the strongly curved sapphire crystal above the dial. The manufacturer has also reduced the size of the bezel, which is now made of aluminium. As the model name suggests, the watch is waterproof up to 300 metres.
The dial of the Seamaster 300 is now composed of two layers. The lower layer bears luminous material, while the upper layer has cut-outs for numerals and indices. This so-called sandwich structure not only improves readability, but also emphasises the model’s vintage appeal. To this end, OMEGA also keeps the text on the dial minimal, retaining only the brand name and model designation. Also new is the Lollipop seconds hand, which bears Super-LumiNova, as do the other two hands. The dial is either blue or black, with a matching bezel each way.
The watch is available on a newly designed steel bracelet. It consists of three links, the outer ones being brushed while the middle piece is polished. The brushed steel folding clasp has a comfort extension and is secured with two pushers. Alternatively, a beige leather strap with pin buckle is available for the model with blue dial. A dark brown leather strap is available to match the black dial.
OMEGA Seamaster 300 Bronze Gold
In addition, OMEGA presents the Seamaster 300 Bronze Gold, which comes with a case made of a newly developed bronze alloy. This material combines bronze with 37.5% gold and palladium and silver. According to OMEGA, this composition provides a pleasant colour tone and slows down the characteristic ageing process of bronze. Otherwise, the case is similar to the other two models. One exception is the bezel, which here is made of dark brown ceramic.
The dial is made of conventional bronze and thus contrasts with the tone of the case. Otherwise, the dial is similar to the other two models. Unlike the steel models, however, the second hand has a diamond-shaped tip. The watch appears on a dark brown leather strap with a pin buckle made of the same bronze alloy.
The Co-Axial calibre 8912 powers the watches
OMEGA equips the three new models with the modern 8912 calibre. It has automatic winding and two barrels that provide a power reserve of 60 hours. OMEGA has also installed a co-axial escapement and a silicon spring. As a result, the Seamaster 300 now has Master Chronometer certification, which guarantees, among other things, protection against magnetic fields. The movement is visible through the sapphire crystal case back and is decorated with the typical OMEGA Geneva waves.
The new models in the OMEGA Seamaster 300 collection will be available from April 2021. The price for a steel case with steel bracelet is 6,600 euros, while the watch with leather strap costs 6,300. Last but not least, the Bronze Gold costs 11,800 euros and comes with a leather strap.
