With the Oris Okavango Air Rescue Limited Edition, the Hölstein-based company is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Botswanian air ambulance organisation Okavango Air Rescue (O.A.R). They operate helicopters and aeroplanes as well as a clinic to provide medical care to the population. The watch is a variant of the Big Crown ProPilot but has a green dial, which is meant to remind of the nature of the South African state. In addition, the case back bears an engraving depicting one of the aircraft. The Oris Okavango Air Rescue is limited to 2011 pieces.
Okavango Air Rescue provides medical care in Botswana
The Swiss entrepreneur Christian Gross and the German Misha S. Kruck founded the air ambulance organisation Okavango Air Rescue (O.A.R) in 2011. The former brought experience as founder of an environmental protection organisation, while the German has the medical expertise. Together, they serve a sparsely populated area in Botswana. Now Oris is announcing its partnership with this organisation and is launching the Oris Okavango Air Rescue as a special edition to mark the O.A.R.’s tenth anniversary.
The case of the Oris Okavango Air Rescue Limited Edition
The watch is housed in the 41 mm stainless steel case of the Big Crown ProPilot. This robust case bears a fluted bezel and has an oversized crown. The manufacturer also engraves an image of one of the rescue planes over Botswana on the solid case back. In addition, the limitation number is here. At the same time, sapphire glass protects the front, which has an anti-reflective coating on the inside.
The green dial is reminiscent of Botswana’s nature
The dial is inspired by the grass of the Okavango Delta. Accordingly, it has a textured surface that appears in a deep, rich green. Above are the large Arabic numerals and the indices with luminous material. Also equipped with Super-LumiNova are the hour and minute hands. There is also a black seconds hand with a red tip. Last but not least, ORIS has given the special model a date window at 3 o’clock, which presents white numerals on a black background.
The mechanics
The Oris 751 calibre inside the Okavango Air Rescue Limited Edition is based on the Sellita SW220-1. It has automatic winding and a power reserve of 38 hours. It operates at a classic frequency of 4 hertz and has 26 jewels. In addition to hours, minutes and seconds, it also offers a date window that jumps instantaneously. Furthermore, the calibre offers a stop-seconds function.

The Okavango Air Rescue Limited Edition comes on an olive green textile strap made by Erika’s Originals. Oris also includes a brown leather strap with a pin buckle. The manufacturer even includes a leather pouch. The watch is limited to 2011 pieces and is available now. The price is 2,150 euros.
