SIHH 2019: Panerai Submersible Mike Horn Edition 47 mm and Special Edition
To honor the explorer Mike Horn, Panerai created the new Submersible Mike Horn Edition, introduced at SIHH watch fair 2019. The watch is upon other terms water resistant to a depth of 300 m or 30 bar. Mike Horn is someone, whose heart beats for nature and its protection. Therefore Panerai was interested in using innovative methods and recycled materials for the production of this model.
To reduce the impact on the resources of our planet the production of the watch (Ref. PAM00984) was mainly focused on EcoTitanium. This material, obtained of recycled Titanium, was used by Panerai for the 47 mm case, the device protecting the winding crown, the bezel and also the back, on which is engraved the signature of Mike Horn and an image of the inhabitants of our oceans.
The unidirectional rotating bezel enables the duration of each diving session to be calculated. Legibility in the dark is guaranteed by the use of green Super-LumiNova on the index markers and the large skeleton hands, which are a contrast to the black of the sandwich dial. Also visible, in normal situations and underwater, are the seconds dial at 9 o’clock, the date at 3 o’clock and the inscriptions ‘Panerai Submersible’ and ‘Automatic 300m/1000ft’ which are silk-screened on the sapphire crystal which protects the dial.

In the manufacturing of the light and robust strap and the watch’s packaging the Italian brand keeps up with its thought of sustainable use of the planet’s resources. The material of the diving watch’s black strap is based on recycled PET. The packaging, which visually reminds of Panerai’s underwater instruments, is as well produced with recycled material. In addition a second rubber strap is included inside. Inside runs the automatic calibre P.9010 with a three day power reserve.
