Hublot Big Bang MECA-10 42mm: New Case, New Movement
Hublot presents the Big Bang MECA-10 in a more compact 42mm case. The watch features an updated movement with three linear bridges and a power reserve of 10 days. The watch is available in three versions: King Gold, Titanium, and Frosted Carbon. The new case size offers a more ergonomic fit and retains the design elements of the Big Bang collection. The MECA-10 movement is a unique take on mechanical watch movements, with a power reserve indicator that uses a digital display.
Case
The case of the Big Bang MECA-10 measures 42mm in diameter and 13.9mm in thickness and water-resistant up to 100 meters. There are three different versions of the watch, each with a different case material. The King Gold and Titanium versions feature the signature finish of satin-brushed surfaces and polished edges. The Frosted Carbon version is the first of its kind in the Big Bang collection and is made from unique carbon fiber with no fixed pattern.
Dial
The dial of the Big Bang MECA-10 is a matt black ring with a skeletonised center, offering a clear view of the mechanics. The hours and minutes are indicated by two central hands that are coated with luminescent material for better readability in low light conditions. The most striking feature of the dial is the visible balance wheel, which is positioned on the dial side of the movement. This not only adds to the aesthetics of the watch but also highlights Hublot’s unique and patented fine adjustment mechanism. The dial also features a power reserve indicator that shows the remaining days of autonomy. This indicator is driven by a “crémaillère” rack system and consists of a linear gear engaging a circular gear, moving in a straight line.
Movement
The Big Bang MECA-10 is powered by the HUB1205 manufacture movement. This manual winding movement has a power reserve of 10 days, delivered by two mainspring barrels. The movement is visibly different from its predecessor, with three linear bridges that are decorated with satin-brushed surfaces and hand-polished bevels. Each version of the watch has a movement that is galvanically coloured to match the case. The power reserve indicator is a unique feature of the MECA-10 movement and uses a differential display to show the remaining days of autonomy. The balance wheel is entirely visible and features a lubricant-free and paramagnetic silicon escape wheel. The movement also has a hacking seconds mechanism for precise time-setting.
Strap
The King Gold and Titanium versions of the Big Bang MECA-10 come with a black lined rubber strap and an 18K King Gold or Black-plated Titanium deployant buckle. The Frosted Carbon version, however, comes with a black Velcro strap that complements the lightweight yet rugged properties of the case. The watch also features Hublot’s “One Click” system integrated in the case, allowing for easy swapping of the strap.
