IWC Schaffhausen has introduced two new Portugieser models equipped with complications. Firstly, the Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph combines a tourbillon with a retrograde date display and chronograph function. Secondly, the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon has both a tourbillon and a perpetual calendar.
Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph
The Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph comes in two 43.5 mm versions. Only 50 pieces of each have been created. The model’s design evokes IWC’s maritime Boutique Editions. One version is the Boutique Edition Ref. IW394005. It has a hardy 18-carat Armor Gold case and features a blue dial with gold-plated hands and 18-carat gold appliques. By contrast, the Ref. IW394006 version has a platinum case. It showcases a silver-plated dial with rhodium-plated hands and appliques. The dial and caseback are protected by anti-reflective sapphire crystal.
Powering the Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph is the self-winding IWC-manufactured 89900 calibre. It has a power reserve of 68 hours. Additionally, the watch combines a flying hacking minute tourbillon at 6 o’clock with a retrograde date display at 9 o’clock. Furthermore, the chronograph’s stopwatch function allows its wearer to time hours, minutes and seconds. Also, the totaliser at 12 o’clock combines stopped hours and minutes.
The hacking tourbillon can stop the watch completely, meaning the wearer can set the time accurately. The pallet lever and escape wheel use Diamond Shell technology. This creates an extremely hard surface, reducing friction and therefore improving the flow of energy in the movement. Additionally, the movement – including the 18-carat gold rotor – are visible through the caseback.
Presented on a blue leather alligator strap by Santoni, the watches are water-resistant to 30 m.
PRICE: Ref. IW394005 (Boutique Edition) is priced at 109,000 euros. The price of the Ref. IW394006 is 128,000 euros.
Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon
The Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon comes in two 45 mm variations. The Boutique Edition (Ref. IW504504) showcases an 18-carat Armor Gold case. It features a blue dial with gold-plated hands, and 18-carat gold appliques. Meanwhile, the Ref. IW504505 has a platinum case. The silver-plated dial’s hands and appliques are rhodium-plated. Anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects both the dial and caseback.
The IWC-manufactured 51950 calibre combines a perpetual calendar with a lightweight tourbillon. The tourbillon lies at 12 o’clock, while the moonphase integrates into the month display at 6 o’clock. Furthermore, the perpetual calendar recognises the different lengths of the months and adds an extra day at the end of February every four years. Meanwhile, the moonphase needs a one-day adjustment after 577 years and six months. Finally, the automatic 51950 calibre features an 18-carat gold rotor that is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. The movement has a seven-day power reserve.
Again, the model comes on a blue leather alligator strap by Santoni. It is water-resistant to 30 m.
PRICE: Ref. IW504504 (Boutique Edition) is priced at 120,000 euros. The price of the Ref. IW504505 is 139,000 euros.
