The Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date arrives in a new olive green shade. The maritime sports watch previously preferred to show itself in shiny blue, but now this variant is comes in with a new earthy hue. Like its sister model, the stainless steel case has an additional crown for adjusting the rotating inner bezel. Inside the watch, there are robust mechanics at work that can be viewed through the caseback. The watch appears on an interchangeable green rubber strap with a folding clasp.
The Polaris Case
The stainless steel case of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date in olive green remains true to the archetype. It has a diameter of 42 mm and measures 13.92 mm in height. The case is sporty and elegant with satin-finished surfaces but a polished, narrow bezel. The ends of the lugs are angular and underscore the pragmatic appearance of the sports watch.
There are two crowns on the right flank, the upper one being responsible for moving the dive time scale on the inside. With the lower crown, the wearer sets the time and date instead. Both bear the JLC logo, which does not make it any easier to distinguish between the functions. Elsewhere, the sapphire crystal case back allows a view of the in-house mechanics. The manufacture specifies the water resistance with 20 bar or 200 metres.
The Glossy Dial of The Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date
The Polaris now appears with a dial in a dark olive green. The colour gradient typical of the model remains. From the fumé-like centre, the shiny lacquer fades unagitatedly into the black periphery. The green tones harmonise with the vanilla-coloured indices and numerals, which incorporate the vintage design cues. Meanwhile, three hands indicate the time from the centre and also have vanilla-coloured Super-LumiNova coating.
The orange at the tip of the second hand and on the square indices of the rotating inner bezel provide a sporty contrast. The triangle marking the origin also appears orange. Last but not least, there is a cut-out date window at 3 o’clock, which integrates itself into the dial with rounded edges.
The In-House Movement
The in-house calibre 899AB sets the pace here. It offers automatic winding and a power reserve of 70 hours, which is provided by a single barrel. The frequency of the balance is 4 hertz. The performance and reliability of the mechanism are tested in a 1,000-hour test series, the 1,000 Hours Control Test. The Manufacture also decorates its movement with a skeletonised rotor and Geneva stripes.
