Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Diver Green: New Variant With Emerald Dial
Nivada Grenchen has introduced a new version of the Antarctic Diver. The Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Diver Green features a new dial and some minor design updates, but the case and overall specifications remain the same. Throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, Nivada Grenchen, a renowned tool-watch brand, released numerous editions of its Antarctic watch. Some of these models, such as the Spider variant have already been reintroduced. In 2023, the brand revived one of the earliest models in the collection—the Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Diver, its first dive watch, originally launched in the late 1950s. Initially presented with a classic matte black dial, this timepiece returns with a striking green dial and several notable updates.
Classic Case With Modern Accents
The case of the Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Diver Green measures 38mm in diameter and 12.9mm in thickness. It is made of brushed and polished 316L stainless steel, with a design reminiscent of late 1950s and early 1960s dive watches. The unprotected crown and elongated lugs add to the vintage appeal. However, modern features such as the unidirectional rotating bezel with a black ceramic insert and fully graduated 60-minute scale, as well as the double-domed sapphire crystal, offer durability and functionality. The watch is water-resistant up to 200m, thanks to the screw-down crown and solid steel screwed back.
Green Sunburst Dial
The dial of the Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Diver Green is where the most significant changes have occurred. The emerald green colour and sunray-brushed pattern give the watch a fresh look. While the distinctive handset from the original black model remains, the crosshair has been removed, and new hour markers with a combination of applied metallic and painted rectangles have been introduced. The simpler minute track and cream-toned Super-LumiNova add to the retro aesthetic. The watch is available with or without a date display.
Reliable Movement With Modern Technology
Powering the Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Diver Green is the Soprod P024 movement. This movement is a clone of the ETA 2824-2 and is produced by the Festina Group. It operates at a frequency of 4Hz and has a power reserve of 38 hours. The movement features 25 jewels and offers hours, minutes, hacking central seconds, and date functions (depending on the model). While it may not be the most innovative movement on the market, it is reliable and helps keep the cost of the watch down.
Strap Options
The Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Diver Green is available with a variety of straps and bracelets. Customers can choose from leather, racing leather, or rubber tropic straps. There are also options for metal bracelets, including a flat link and beads of rice. These different options allow for personalisation and comfort, catering to different preferences.
Price and Availability of the Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Diver Green
The Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Diver Green is part of the brand’s permanent collection and is available for a price of 955 euros. Interested buyers can purchase the watch through Nivada Grenchen’s official website or authorized retailers. For more information, visit the official Nivada Grenchen website.
