OMEGA is introducing a Master Chronometer-certified watch – the DeVille Tourbillon Numbered Edition. Its release marks the creation of OMEGA’s first ever Master Chronometer certified manual-winding central tourbillon. Such manual-wound movements remain rare at OMEGA. Furthermore, the one-minute tourbillon has a co-axial escapement.
Notably, the black ceramised tourbillon cage is able to keep rotating under a magnetic field of 15,000 gauss. Furthermore, in order to achieve the Master Chronometer certification, the tourbillon’s speed is set to one revolution per minute, allowing for the display of seconds.
Another challenge for OMEGA were the watch’s hands, which could not be placed in the centre due to the tourbillon. Therefore, the indicators for the hours and minutes are mounted on two sapphire disks, which are driven by gearing under the case bezel.
The DeVille Tourbillon Numbered Edition‘s case is made with18-carat Sedna (bezel, crown) and Canopus gold (middle case); OMEGA’s Sedna gold alloy combines gold, copper and palladium, while Canopus is the horology house’s exclusive white-gold alloy.
The sun-brushed dial is also in 18-carat Sedna gold, yet is coloured black thanks to its black PVD treatment. At the centre of the dial is the tourbillon cage, featuring hand-polished bevels in black ceramised titanium. As mentioned, the hour and minute hands start halfway from the centre of the dial. A domed, scratch-resistant, anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the dial.
Powering the De Ville Central Tourbillon is OMEGA’s new central tourbillon movement, the three-day OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 2640. Additionally, the hand-wound central tourbillon calibre is visible the sapphire crystal caseback, and integrates a power reserve indicator. Furthermore, the bridges and mainplate are made from 18-carat Sedna gold and have been hand-bevelled for a decorative finish.
The DeVille Tourbillon Numbered Edition is a numbered collector’s piece, but is not a limited edition. It is presented on a black leather strap with a polished 18-carat Sedna gold buckle. Finally, it costs 159,960 euros.
