Porsche Design is presenting the Chronograph 1 GP 2022 Edition. The special model celebrates the GP Ice Race in Zell am See, of which the brand is the official timekeeper. The watch is based on the Chronograph 1, which was recently presented and commemorates the 50th anniversary of Porsche Design. Here, however, it is equipped with an exclusive strap that can also be worn over a racing suit. In addition, there is a special engraving on the case back and additional content in the Collector’s Box that comes with the watch.
The Case is Based on The Original Model From 1972
The case consists of the light yet resistant metal titanium. The diameter of the watch is 40.8 mm with a height of 14.5 mm. The design is similar to the recently launched Chronograph 1, which was in turn inspired by the original model from 1972. The matt surface in particular emphasises the retro character. On the back, however, the wearer sees an engraving depicting the Fetzenflieger. The latter is a Porsche-based car that Otto Mathé raced to a new record time. In keeping with the sporty inspiration, the watch is water-resistant to 100 metres.
Matching Black Dial
The dial appears completely black with contrasting markers in white. Around the dial, however, there is a wide flange that bears the tachymeter scale. The time is indicated by two rectangular hands coated with luminous material. In addition, the red chronograph hand stands out from the centre. The corresponding counters are at 12 and 6 o’clock. At 9 o’clock however, is the small seconds. On the opposite side is a weekday and date display. A vintage Porsche Design logo can also be found here, referencing the brand’s past.
The Movement Inside The Porsche Design Chronograph 1
The WERK 01.140 calibre powers the watch. It was developed in the manufacture in Solothurn, but uses the platform of the supplier Concepto. The movement offers automatic winding and a power reserve of 48 hours. The chronograph uses a cam switch together with an oscillating pinion clutch. Elsewhere, the quick-set date adds convenience. The watch also comes with the chronometer certificate of the COSC, which guarantees appropriate accuracy. Last but not least, Porsche Design decorates the movement with black coating and small prints of the brand logo.
Price & Availability of The Porsche Design Chronograph 1 GP 2022 Edition
The chronograph appears on a titanium bracelet that offers a folding clasp. Porsche Design also adds a white textile strap featuring the GP ICE RACE 2022 label. The strap also allows the watch to sit securely over a ski or racing suit. Furthermore, the watch comes with a Collector’s Box, which is also suitable for transporting the timepiece. The Porsche Design Chronograph 1 GP 2022 Edition is available now, but the delivery time is at least 10 days. Furthermore, the model appears as a limited edition of only 50 pieces. Price: 6,972 euros. Update: According to Porsche Design, the watch already sold out.
