Blancpain is presenting a new model in the Bathyscaphe collection. The new Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Sedna combines a blue dial and bezel with a Sedna gold case for the first time. It comes with a choice of a blue NATO textile strap or a blue canvas strap.
The Bathyscaphe (pronounced: “Batiskaf”, a type of submarine) was launched a few years after the original Fifty Fathoms, the first professional diving watch. It is a variant of the tool watch Fifty Fathoms, which is suitable for everyday use. On the 60th anniversary of Fifty Fathoms, the Bathyscaphe was reissued in a contemporary version, and has been produced in a wide variety of models with different complications and materials ever since.
The 43 mm case of the new model is made of Sedna gold. Sedna Gold is an alloy of gold, copper and palladium, and the rose gold-toned combination is particularly resistant. The material is best known for its extensive use at OMEGA (both manufacturers belong to the Swatch Group). Furthermore, the case of the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Sedna features a satin-finished surface and angular contours. The unidirectional rotating bezel, also in Sedna gold, features a ceramic insert with a time scale and hour-markers in Ceragold.
Meanwhile, the dial of the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Sedna is a deep shade of blue with a sunburst finish. The rectangular hour markers and the minute circle with gold dots and Super-LumiNova coating enable the time to be read even in difficult lighting conditions. Additionally, the hour and minute hands, also rectangular in shape and coated with Super-LumiNova, are reminiscent of the original Bathyscaphe models from the 1950s. However, the contemporary model also features a second hand and a date window.
The in-house caliber 1315 with automatic winding powers the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Sedna. Equipped with three barrels connected in series, this model offers a five-day power reserve, delivering constant energy. Also, the balance connects to a silicon hairspring, which not only improves precision but also resistance to magnetic fields. The oscillating weight is sandblasted, satin-finished and also in Sedna gold with the engraved Blancpain logo. Additionally, the sapphire crystal caseback allows the decorated calibre to be observed at work.
Finally, the new Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Sedna offers water resistance up to 300 m and comes on a blue NATO textile strap or on a blue canvas wristband. Moreover, the price is 22,660 euros.
