Panerai Radiomir Eilean: In Honour of the Venerable Yacht
The Panerai Radiomir Eilean celebrates the yacht restored by the Manufacture. Both the original Radiomir and the Eilean were created in 1936, and Panerai took on the ship as it continued to deteriorate. In honour of this venerable ship, the Radiomir Eilean is presented with a brown teak dial. Engravings and inscriptions complement the watch. The brown strap made of Italian leather also refers to the yacht with its stitching, which is reminiscent of the lacing on the sails.
The Panerai Radiomir and the Sailing Yacht Eilean
In the same year that the first Radiomir debuted, a yacht designed by the renowned boatbuilder William Fife III was also built in 1936. The Eilean was in service for decades before falling into disrepair at the beginning of the 21st century. The Panerai manufacture took on the ship in 2006 and restored it. Now the Eilean is sailing around the world again and will arrive in Portofino in July 2021, where the Italianità will be celebrated.
Case
The steel case of the Radiomir Eilean measures an imposing 45 mm in diameter. With its cushion shape, it harks back to the first Radiomir from 1936. The steel for the case also has a patina that creates a matt sheen and reflects the light with more warmth. In addition, an engraving adorns the left side of the case which is inspired by the hull of the Eilean. Meanwhile, on the solid case back is the inscription “Eilean 1936”, which also appears on the ship’s boom. Finally, the case withstands water pressure up to 10 bar or 100 metres.
Brown Teak Dial
The brown dial sits beneath the domed sapphire crystal. With its striped structure, it is reminiscent of the teak deck of the yacht. The recessed numerals and indices of the sandwich dial have green Super-LumiNova. Above, gold-coloured hands in vintage style tell the time.
The calibre P.6000 in the Radiomir Eilean shows only hours & minutes
Panerai equips this Radiomir with the P.6000 calibre. The calibre has manual winding and offers a power reserve of 72 hours. Only a single barrel provides the entire energy here. The in-house movement consists of 110 components and operates at a frequency of 3 Hertz. Due to the lack of a seconds hand, the calibre only displays hours and minutes.
Price & Availability of the Panerai Radiomir Eilean
The new Panerai Radiomir Eilean appears on a dark brown strap made of Tuscan calfskin with side stitching. The latter are meant to recall the lacing of the Eilean sails. It also bears an embossed Eilean logo that is similar to that of the caseback. The strap also features a trapezoidal buckle in patinated steel. The manufacture plans an annual edition of 449 pieces. The price for the Panerai Radiomir Eilean (PAM01243) is 7,900 euros.
