The globe in focus: Greubel Forsey GMT Earth in titanium
Atelier Greubel Forsey is presenting the third edition of the GMT Earth. While the two predecessors were still made of precious metals, this new version has a titanium case. It features a rotating globe that immediately shows the wearer which hemisphere is in the daytime and which is at night. In addition, the manufacture has installed its inclined tourbillon, which is supposed to improve accuracy. However, the watch is limited to only 11 pieces.
The titanium case makes the watch light yet robust
Greubel Forsey houses this GMT Earth in an asymmetrical 45.5 mm case made of titanium. The metal is almost twice as light as steel and yet just as robust. By using titanium, the weight of the watch has been reduced to 117 grams. But not only the case is made of the material. The GMT pusher at 10 o’clock and the crown are also made of titanium. Meanwhile, on the bezel, the values of the atelier adorn the edge of the case. In addition, a domed, asymmetrical sapphire crystal protects the front. On the back, the wearer finds 24 time zones that display the UTC time of 24 reference cities. Those that observe daylight saving time are displayed on a white background.
With the globe on the dial, the wearer always has the world time in sight
The time is indicated by two hands on the off-centre dial. In addition, there is a small seconds at 3 o’clock. To the left of the dial, Greubel Forsey places the GMT display, which has a red triangular hand. Below is the globe, which completes one rotation within 24 hours. Unlike its predecessor, the earth is now visible from all sides and a small window on the side of the case gives a view of the equator. With the engraved ring, the wearer can see on which hemisphere it is day and on which it is night. Last but not least, the long hand near the crown reflects the power reserve. It points to a segment of gold with black coating and a scale.
The mechanics
The movement of the Greubel Forsey GMT Earth has 453 parts and 60 jewels, some of which are set in gold chatons. Meanwhile, the barrel has a power reserve of 70 hours. Also on board: a tourbillon that rotates at an angle of 25 degrees. This invention is accompanied by a high speed of 24 seconds for one revolution. The manufacture expects this to improve accuracy, especially in stable positions. The balance inside the tourbillon cage beats at a frequency of 3 hertz.
Price & availability of the Greubel Forsey GMT Earth

However, the titanium folding clasp with the GF logo is the same on both versions. The watch is limited to 11 pieces.
