Porsche Design Custom-Built Timepieces Globetimer: UTC Watch Now Available in The Configurator
The Porsche Design Globetimer has been part of the brand’s product range since 2019 and offers a unique take on the time zone function. Its pushers, which are in the style of a chronograph, can be used to move the hour hand forwards or backwards. The date follows along in both directions. Derived from the dual-clutch gearbox in Porsche cars, the mechanism is similar to the paddles on the steering wheel. The complication is now being introduced as part of the Custom-Built Timepieces program. While it was previously only to be found in the Porsche Design 1919 Globetimer UTC with the modern case of the 1919 collection, it is now being offered with the Chronotimer case instead.
Using the configurator, the watch can be designed entirely according to personal preference. While the dial remains matt black, there are 142 original Porsche colours to choose from for the ring around the dial. The case, bezel and even the winding rotor can also be personalized. For the bracelet, there is natural titanium or a black finish. There are also leather straps with contrasting stitching in all the colours from the Porsche sports cars.
Case
The watch is made of titanium and measures 42 mm in diameter and 14.68 mm in height. The pushers have a plus or minus sign to indicate their role in advancing the local time. The case back is solid and also made of titanium. Customers can have their own text engraved here, consisting of five lines of 17 characters each. The water resistance of the watch is 5 bar.
Dial
The various displays of the Porsche Design Custom-Built Timepieces Globetimer are located at different levels on the matt black dial. Together with the hour and minute hands, the minute track with luminescent indices indicates the local time. The triangular hand with a luminous tip indicates the time of a self-selected zone in 24-hour format on the bezel. Meanwhile, a cut-out at 9 o’clock reveals a day/night disc that corresponds to the local time.
Movement
The WERK 04.110. was developed especially for the Globetimer. It allows the local time to be changed in one-hour increments without interrupting timekeeping. The chronograph-style pushers mean that there is no need to use the crown for the function. The movement is produced in the company’s own manufacture in Solothurn, Switzerland. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a power reserve of 38 hours. The automatic winding system provides fresh energy. The COSC certification means that the movement can also call itself a chronometer.
