70 years ago, Panerai introduced the tritium-based luminous substance Luminor – now, the Florentine watchmaker is launching a highly modern watch with a further improved luminosity and – for the first time – a service warranty of 70 years.
Ever since the 1940s, Panerai has continuously worked on improving the emission of light. By using SuperLumiNova X1, they have now mastered a crucial step to further enhance the visibility in the dark. For the very first time, the luminescent substance has also been applied on the crown protection device as well as the stitching of the strap.
Due to its special titanium structure, which is manufactured by the technology known as ‘Direct Metal Laser Sintering’ (DMLS), the new model weighs a mere 100 grams, including the strap. This process of futuristic 3D printing involves the sedimentation of titanium powder, sintered layer by layer by a high-powered optical fibre laser, 30 microns (0,03 mm) at a time.
The new PAM01117 runs with calibre P.9010, which has been entirely conceived and developed by the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel. The 6 mm thin automatic movement is fitted with a function for quickly setting the time, which also simultaneously modifies the date. The movement has a power reserve of three days, provided by its twin spring barrels.
In 2019, the brand introduced the Pam-Guard care programme, where the warranty of all watches bought within the past two years can be extended to another six years. To mark the occasion of the 70th ’Luminor’ anniversary, they are offering a warranty of an incredible 70 years for this model. Throughout this period, Panerai will maintain the good working order of the client’s watch as necessary under the terms and conditions of the International warranty.
The new Luminor Marina 44 mm is water-resistant to 30 bar (300 m) and is worn on a blue strap made of Panerai ‘Sportech’ – a woven fabric to give a waterproof rubberised effect, with luminous stitching and a Velcro fastener. A second rubber strap, which is blue with a titanium tongue buckle, is also supplied – as is a dedicated tool for changing straps.
The watch, including the second strap and changing tool, comes in a special box with a luminous stylised representation of the dial of the Luminor Marina on its lid. The Luminor Marina 44 mm PAM01117 is limited to 270 pieces and is exclusive to Panerai Boutiques.
