Audemars Piguet has unveiled a new model within the Code 11.59 collection. The Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Chronograph now appears in a combination of black ceramic and 18k white gold. This watch, which first launched in 2021, showcases the brand’s watchmaking expertise with an open-worked dial and a complex movement.

Case

The case measures 41 mm in diameter and has a height of 13.8 mm. It is constructed from two materials: the middle case and the crown are made of high-tech black ceramic, while the bezel, back, lugs, and pushers are fashioned from 18k white gold. These elements feature alternating brushed surfaces and polished bevels, adding to the visual interest. The double-curved sapphire crystal ensures clear visibility and reduces reflections. However, the water resistance is limited to 30 meters, which is less than what one might expect from a AP. Overall, the case exudes a modern yet elegant aesthetic that complements the watch’s complications.

Dial

The dial of the Code 11.59 Flying Tourbillon Chronograph in Ceramic and Gold is open-worked, revealing the intricate mechanics of the movement underneath. The black-coated mainplate provides a stark contrast to the rhodium-toned bridges, highlighting their geometric designs and meticulous finishing. The semi-matte, slate grey inner flange features a white printed seconds scale, adding depth to the dial without detracting from the movement. The hour and minute hands are made of 18k pink gold and are equipped with luminescent inserts, enhancing readability in low-light conditions. The central chronograph seconds hand also in pink gold retains its circular counterweight. Meanwhile, the chronograph sub-dials at 3 and 9 o’clock have black rings with white markings, ensuring they do not obstruct the view of the gears. At 6 o’clock, the aperture reveals a one-minute flying tourbillon with a pink gold balance wheel, adding a dramatic touch to the dial.

Movement

Powering the Code 11.59 Flying Tourbillon Chronograph in Ceramic and Gold is the calibre 2952. This in-house movement is an automatic chronograph with flyback functionality. It consists of 479 components, including 40 jewels. The movement operates at a frequency of 21,600 beats per hour (3 Hz) and offers a power reserve of 65 hours. The open-working on the front and back of the movement not only showcases the intricate mechanics but also highlights the 111 hand-polished inner angles on the bridges and decorative elements. The rotor, made of pink gold, adds a luxurious touch to the otherwise technical movement. The column-wheel system used for the chronograph ensures a crisp actuation of the pushers and precise operation of the functions.

Strap

The Code 11.59 Flying Tourbillon Chronograph in Ceramic and Gold comes equipped with a dark grey strap that has a textured, rubber coating. This choice of material offers durability and comfort on the wrist. The strap is paired with an 18k white gold folding clasp, ensuring a secure fit.
