It is inspired by the 1968 Ultra-Chron Diver, the first diver’s watch with a high-frequency movement. The watch is powered by the exclusive Longines high-frequency movement, which oscillates at 36,000 vibrations per hour. It is also fully certified as a chronometer. The watch combines innovation and precision, offering a unique design and robust performance.
The case of the Longines Ultra-Chron Carbon is made from unidirectional carbon fibre and epoxy resin. This material is known for its strength and light weight, making it ideal for high-performance watches. The case measures 43 mm in diameter and has a cushion shape, reminiscent of the original 1968 model. The manufacturing process involves placing the carbon strips in a mould, heating them to high temperatures, and compressing them under high pressure. This creates random patterns in the carbon, ensuring that each case is unique. The watch weighs less than 80 grams, including the strap. It is water-resistant up to 30 bar (300 metres). The bezel is made of titanium with an aluminium insert, featuring a scale marked in increments of 10. The screw-down crown and case back are also in titanium, ensuring durability and corrosion resistance. A sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides protects the dial and provides clear visibility from all angles.
The dial of the Longines Ultra-Chron Carbon is sandblasted anthracite, giving it a textured finish that enhances readability. It features a chapter ring with twelve applied silver indexes, all coated with Super-LumiNova blue luminescence for visibility in low-light conditions. The hour and minute hands are in grey PVD and also have Super-LumiNova treatment. The seconds hand is a classic design without luminescence. An original Ultra-Chron logo is applied to the dial, adding a touch of nostalgia to this modern timepiece. Overall, the dial balances functionality and aesthetics, staying true to the watch’s heritage while incorporating contemporary elements.
The Longines Ultra-Chron Carbon is powered by the exclusive Longines calibre L.836.6. This high-frequency movement oscillates at 36,000 vibrations per hour, or 5 Hz. This high frequency improves the watch’s stability and accuracy, especially in the face of shocks and changes in position. The movement also features a silicon balance spring, making it more resistant to magnetic fields and temperature variations. It has a power reserve of up to 52 hours. The movement is fully certified as a chronometer by TIMELAB, an independent testing laboratory in Geneva. This certification involves a 15-day testing period under different temperatures and positions, ensuring the watch meets strict accuracy standards.
The Longines Ultra-Chron Carbon comes with a black technical fabric strap. This material is durable and resistant to wear, making it suitable for a sports watch. The strap features a titanium buckle, ensuring secure closure and added comfort. The distance between the lugs is 22 mm, allowing for the option of changing to other straps or bracelets if desired.
