TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph and Tourbillon in Purple
TAG Heuer has unveiled two new additions to its Carrera collection: the Carrera Chronograph and the limited Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon, the latter of which is limited to 200 pieces. Both watches feature a striking smoky black-to-purple gradient dial, showcasing the brand’s Glassbox design. These timepieces offer collectors a fresh perspective on the Carrera’s more then 60-year legacy.
Case
The cases of the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph and Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon are constructed without a bezel, highlighting the “Glassbox” design. The Carrera Chronograph has a 39mm diameter, while the Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon measures 42mm. Both cases are made of stainless steel with alternating polished and brushed finishes. The domed sapphire crystal, with double anti-reflective treatment ensures improved visibility. The screw-down sapphire crystal caseback on both models reveals the intricate movements inside. Water resistance is rated at 100 meters.
Dial
The dials of these new Carrera models feature a smoky purple sunray brushed finish, transitioning from deep black at the edges to a rich purple at the centre. The chronograph counters are finished in black “azuré”, providing contrast against the purple backdrop. Rhodium-plated hour markers and hands, along with white Super-LumiNova, ensure legibility in low light conditions. The angled date window at 6 o’clock adds a practical element and successfully blends in with the aesthetics of the dial. The iconic TAG Heuer logo and “CARRERA”, “SWISS” are printed on the dial.
Movement
The Carrera Chronograph is powered by the in-house Heuer 02 (TH20-00) movement, known for its reliability and performance. This automatic movement features a column wheel and offers a chronograph function with an 80-hour power reserve. The Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon houses the Heuer 02 (TH20-09) tourbillon movement. The tourbillon cage, visible through the dial, adds a unique complication and highlights TAG Heuer’s horological expertise. This movement also provides a 65-hour power reserve. Both movements are visible through the caseback, showcasing the intricate craftsmanship.
Strap
Both the Carrera Chronograph and Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon come with black perforated leather straps. The straps feature black stitching on the front and a purple calfskin lining on the reverse, with tone-on-tone stitching. The fine brushed and polished steel folding clasps with double safety push-buttons and the TAG Heuer shield provide secure closure and ease of use.
Price & Availability
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph and Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon will be available from January 2025. The Carrera Chronograph has a retail price of 6,500 CHF, while the Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon is priced at 34,000 CHF. The Tourbillon is a limited edition, with only 200 pieces being produced.
