W&W 2025: The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Land-Dweller With Calibre 7135
With the introduction of the Oyster Perpetual Land-Dweller, Rolex has opened a new chapter in the history of watchmaking. With an impressive 32 new patent applications, 18 of which are exclusive to this model, the Land-Dweller showcases the innovative spirit of Rolex. 16 patents have been filed for the new calibre 7135 movement alone, which is equipped with a completely new regulating organ, the Dynapulse escapement. The watch is available in two sizes – 36 mm and 40 mm – and offers a variety of finishes, including stainless steel, white gold, Everose gold and platinum. With its integrated Flat Jubilee bracelet and characteristic Oyster case, it is a prime example of the harmonious combination of form and function.
Case
The case of the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Land-Dweller is made of robust Oystersteel, a special stainless steel alloy known for its corrosion resistance and shine. The Land-Dweller is available in a variety of materials, including Rolesor white (a combination of stainless steel and white gold), 18-carat Everose gold and platinum 950. Each case is equipped with a fluted or diamond-studded bezel that adds a touch of elegance to the watch. Water resistance up to 100 metres is guaranteed by the screw-down case and the Twinlock winding crown, which is equipped with a double sealing system. The open sapphire crystal case back allows a view of the precise movement inside, while the polished flanks and bevels give the case a modern and sophisticated aesthetic.
Dial
The dial of the Land-Dweller features a unique honeycomb pattern, created using the latest laser technology. This pattern gives the dial a three-dimensional depth. The numerals at 6 and 9 o’clock are inspired by the Explorer and Air-King and are open in the middle. The Chromalight hour markers and hands ensure excellent readability in low light conditions, as they glow bright blue in the dark. The dials are available in a variety of colours, including a deep white and an ice-blue dial that is reserved exclusively for the platinum models. The minute track on the bevelled inner bezel is applied using a pad printing process and features a half-second division that underscores the watch’s precision.
Movement
Ticking away at the heart of the Land-Dweller is the new calibre 7135, a state-of-the-art movement developed and manufactured by Rolex that is more efficient than a classic Swiss lever escapement. This self-winding mechanical movement is characterised by its high frequency of 5 hertz, which corresponds to a precision of –2/+2 seconds per day. The new Dynapulse escapement, an innovative new regulating system, ensures efficient energy transfer and contributes to the impressive power reserve of approximately 66 hours. The oscillator, equipped with a Syloxi hairspring made of silicon and a ceramic balance wheel, offers excellent resistance to magnetic fields. The oscillating weight is made of yellow gold and the bridges have been given a Rolex Côtes de Genève finish. The watch also has Superlative Chronometer certification, which confirms its high precision and reliability.
Bracelet
The Land-Dweller‘s Flat Jubilee bracelet is a modern interpretation of the classic Jubilee bracelet from Rolex. It consists of five rows of solid links, offering a perfect balance between elegance and robustness. The centre links are polished and slightly raised, while the outer links have a distinctive satin finish. The polished chamfers on the upper edges of the outer links create a flowing light that seamlessly continues on the Oyster case. The bracelet is equipped with ceramic inserts that protect the spring bar and prevent premature wear. The concealed crownclasp ensures a secure and elegant closure. In the Everose gold and platinum models, the ceramic inserts are also integrated into the strap elements, adding a touch of sophistication to the bracelet.
