Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet – Perpetual Calendar
Audemars Piguet introduced the new collection Code 11.59 on the watch fair SIHH 2019. In total this collection consists of six models. One of them is equipped with a perpetual calendar.
The 41 mm case of the new collection’s six models is round with an octagonal middle piece inside. The upper part of the openworked lugs is welded to the extra-thin bezel, while the lower part leans delicately against the caseback. The bezel, the lugs and the case are satin-brushed, bevelled and polished.

The design of the watches is intensely marked by the double curved glareproofed sapphire crystal. The glass’s internal surface is shaped like a dome, while its external surface is vertically curved from 6 to 12 o’clock. Its shape idealy integrates the extra-thin bezel and extends from edge to edge. As well it highlights the detailed work on the dial. The polished chamfer all around the glass adds the finishing touch.

In the inside of this model beats the selfwinding manufacture calibre 5134 – which is equipped with a openworked 22 Karat gold weight. The special function of this watch is its perpetual calendar adapting the date in month with a shorter length and putting an extra day in February in leap years. When wearing the watch permanently adjustment won‘t be required until 2100.

Visually this the model is especially marked by the use of aventurine. This glass was created in the 17th century thanks to a chance manipulation in an Italian glass factory when copper filings were dropped into cooling molten glass, creating a constellation of sparkling particles. The dark blue aventurine glass of the dial and the subdials remind of a starry sky and this way ideally fit with the moon phase indication at 6 o’clock. The case, the hands and the applied indices are made of pink gold and intensify the blue colour of the dial and subdials. A photographic image of the moon is reproduced through laser engraving and applied on an aventurine disc that subtly matches the design of the watch.

Additionally to the astronomic moon phase indication the perpetual calendar indicates the day number and week day at 3 and 9 o’clock respectively, the month at 12 o’clock, the week numbers on the lacquered blue inner bezel, as well as the hours and minutes.
