Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton Automatic – World Record
The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton is the thinnest automatic watch to be equipped with a monopusher chronograph and a tourbillon. The watch was presented at the Geneva Watchdays 2020, and is limited to 50 pieces.
The Roman jeweller’s Octo collection was launched in 2014 and has since set several world records. Time and again, the brand has succeeded in accommodating complex complications within an ultra-thin case. The new Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton is the sixth creation of the brand to reach the world record podium.
The case of the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton is made of sandblasted titanium and measures 42 mm in diameter. With a height of 7.4 mm, the model is also extremely flat. The octagonal shape is complemented by a round bezel. The sapphire crystal caseback allows for the movement to be viewed.
The front is partially skeletonised. Except for the two counters, the mechanics of the movement are exposed. At 12 o’clock, the mainspring barrel can be seen, while at 6 o’clock the – non-flying – tourbillon is attached. The column wheel of the chronograph is also exposed.
Inside the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton is the company’s calibre BVL 388, the world’s thinnest single-pusher chronograph with a tourbillon, with a height of 3.5 mm. To save space, a ring-shaped peripheral oscillating weight winds the mainspring barrel. The movement can thus offer a power reserve of 52 hours.
The chronograph is operated by the pusher above the crown, which performs the start, stop and reset functions. The crown function can be changed from winding to time setting with the second pusher below the crown. The column wheel provides a soft feel when operating the pushers, while the horizontal clutch connects the chronograph hand to the gear train.
The new Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton is presented on a sandblasted titanium bracelet with a folding clasp. The watch is water-resistant to 30 m and is limited to 50 pieces. Its price is 155,000 euros.
In addition to a redesigned Submariner and new Oyster Perpetual models, Rolex is also introducing a new version of the Sky-Dweller with an Oysterflex bracelet.
