As the main sponsor of the Les Voiles De St Barth sailing regatta, Richard Mille presents the limited edition RM 60-01 Les Voiles De St Barth. Because the event cannot take place this year, the brand reaffirms its commitment and intends to donate all proceeds from the sale of an RM 60-01 to initiatives on St Barth. The watch has a 50 mm case made of titanium and carbon TPT. It also has a flyback chronograph as well as an annual calendar. With its rotating bezel, the watch can also be used as a compass.
Case and Materials of the RM 60-01 Les Voiles De St Barth
Richard Mille opts for a round case that measures 50 x 16.33 mm. It consists of four individual parts, including the long titanium lugs. The middle section is also made of titanium, but carries carbon TPT inserts. In addition, 46 titanium screws hold the case together. Richard Mille also enables the two chronograph pushers to be locked by turning the black ring on the crown. The UTC pusher, which increments the hand for the second time zone, is not affected by this, however.
The case also has a rotating bezel made of titanium and carbon TPT, which bears an indication of the four cardinal points, a measuring disc of 360° and a 24-hour scale. Together with the red UTC hand, sailors can orientate themselves in the same way as with a compass. First the red hand is aligned with the sun. Then the bezel is turned so that the hand corresponds to the current hour of the local time. Now the correct directions of north, east, west and south are displayed to the wearer.
Dial
The dial of the Richard Mille RM 60-01 Les Voiles De St Barth is made of sapphire crystal and thus provides a view of the mechanism. In addition, the manufacture has placed a turquoise-coloured flange with dot indices around the dial. Two broad hands with luminous material indicate the time. There is also a small seconds with a yellow hand at 3 o’clock. The watch has an annual calendar that can distinguish between months with 30 versus 31 days. For this purpose, there is an oversized date window at 12 o’clock and the display of the current month between 4 and 5 o’clock.
The time measurements of the flyback chronograph appear on the countdown subdial at 9 o’clock. Here, the hand has been exchanged for a disc that can be used to read off elapsed minutes as well as the remaining time of an hour. In addition, there is a 24-hour totaliser at 6 o’clock.
The Calibre RMAC2
The Manufacur calibre RMAC2 inside the Richard Mille RM 60-01 Les Voiles De St Barth is visible through the sapphire crystal case back. It also offers a power reserve of 55 hours provided by two barrels. The winding rotor has a system whereby its geometry can be adjusted to the wearer’s level of activity. The watchmakers believe that this will optimise the performance of the winding mechanism. In addition, Richard Mille uses a free-sprung balance with screws. The base plate, the bridges and the balance cock are made of PVD-coated grade 5 titanium, which gives the mechanism greater stability.
