Glashütte Original x Meissen Senator Meissen: Three Limited Anniversary Models
Glashütte Original and the traditional porcelain manufactory Meissen have unveiled a joint edition for the first time: the Senator Meissen. This collaboration unites the finest German craftsmanship across two disciplines, marking both the 180th anniversary of Glashütte watchmaking and the 315th anniversary of Europe’s first porcelain manufactory.
The series comprises three strictly limited models, each featuring hand-painted dials made of Meissen porcelain, distinguished by their unique colours and motifs. Three designs are available: ‘Mystic Maison’ in white or celadon green (limited to 150 pieces each), and a ‘Collage’ version limited to just eight pieces, adorned with vibrant, multicoloured artwork.
A Case in Red Gold
The case of the Senator Meissen is crafted from 18-carat polished red gold, measuring 40 millimetres in diameter and 10.23 millimetres in height. Thanks to the slim profile of calibre 36-16 and the domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal, the watch presents a sleek silhouette.
A sapphire crystal case back reveals the movement, showcasing the traditional Glashütte three-quarter plate, skeletonised rotor with a 21-carat gold oscillating weight, and finely engraved balance bridge. With water resistance of 5 bar (approximately 50 metres), the watch offers protection against splashes and brief exposure to moisture. Subtly curved lugs flow harmoniously into the leather straps.
Three Dial Variations for the Senator Meissen
Enthusiasts of understated design with a historical touch will particularly appreciate the dial variations of the Senator Meissen, which are crafted from ultra-thin discs of Meissen porcelain.
To this day, the Meissen manufactory produces its porcelain entirely by hand, using kaolin (white clay) sourced from Germany’s smallest and Europe’s oldest operational mine. Along with feldspar and quartz, this forms the basis of the so-called ‘white gold’. In an elaborate process, the porcelain dials are first fired at 1,400°C and carefully inspected for evenness. A specialist then applies the decoration, inscriptions, and Roman numerals using fine brushes in multiple layers of colour. Each layer is fired again at 900°C to ensure depth and durability of the hues.
The minimalist display is limited to hour and minute hands in solid red gold and elegant Roman numerals, allowing the artistic décor to take centre stage. The three limited editions express distinct visual themes: the two Mystic Maison models (150 pieces each) feature ornamental designs inspired by the curved aesthetics of Rococo art, rendered in delicate grey on either a white or celadon green background. The latter – a jade-like hue – derives from an ancient glaze first used in China as early as the 9th century. By contrast, the Collage model (limited to eight pieces) presents a vivid composition of animals, flowers, and fruits in bright rainbow colours against a celadon green backdrop. Each dial bears not only the Glashütte Original logo beneath 12 o’clock but also Meissen’s iconic crossed-swords emblem in place of the Roman numeral at 6 o’clock.
The Movement of the Glashütte Original Senator Meissen
At the heart of the Senator Meissen beats the in-house calibre 36-16, a self-winding movement with bi-directional automatic winding and an impressive power reserve of up to 100 hours. The silicon balance spring offers excellent resistance to magnetic fields and temperature variations, while the stop-seconds mechanism ensures precise time setting.
The escapement oscillates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), promoting smooth seconds movement. The shock-protected rotor and the robust three-quarter plate reflect traditional Glashütte engineering principles, enhancing mechanical stability. Visible through the sapphire crystal case back are the skeletonised rotor bearing the Glashütte Original double-G emblem and a host of decorative finishes: Glashütte stripes on the plate, a hand-engraved balance bridge, sunburst finish on the winding wheel, chamfered and polished edges, and blued screws.
Strap Options
Each Senator Meissen comes with a choice of dark blue or black Louisiana alligator leather strap, secured by a red gold pin buckle. The straps are finely grained, hand-stitched, and lined with colour-coordinated leather. The red gold folding clasp complements the case design and allows precise adjustment for a perfect fit. The lugs are equipped with a quick-change mechanism, enabling strap changes without the need for special tools.
Price & Availability
The Senator Meissen models will be available from 9 October 2025 at all Glashütte Original boutiques and selected authorised retailers worldwide. Production is strictly limited: each of the Mystic Maison versions in white and celadon green will be offered in 150 pieces, priced at 29,900 euros, while the Collage edition is limited to just eight pieces, with the price available upon request.
