Jaeger-LeCoultre and designer fashion retailer MR PORTER have created a collaborative timepiece; the Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife Watch Limited Edition. The classic watch pays tribute to the latest Kingsman film, which is due to come out in September 2020. The film,TheKing’s Man, is set in early 1900s – meaning the watch has accordingly vintage and gentlemanly undertones. Furthermore, it is inspired by JLC’s 1907 Couteau (French for “knife”) pocket watch from 1907. Only 100 pieces of the dress watch are available.
TheKing’s Man movie features the likes of Ralph Fiennes, Daniel Brühl, and Gemma Arterton. Directed by Matthew Vaughn, its plot involves a “collection of history’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds”, as they gather to plot a war – and only one gentleman can save the day.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife watch will be offered exclusively on MR PORTER, as a key part of “The Kings’s Men ‘costume to collection’”. With this in mind, the caseback of the Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife watch is engraved with the Kingsman logo.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre x MR PORTER Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife Watch Limited Edition is housed in a 40 mm 18-carat pink-gold case, which measures a mere 4.25 mm in height. This thin bezel and case take inspiration from the ultra-thin Jaeger-LeCoultre pocket watch, Cal 145. The pocket watch’s movement was only 1.38 mm high, and it remained in production for more than 50 years. The bezel of the dress watch is notably broad, sloping from the sapphire crystal to the edge of the case. Notably, the Kingsman Knife Watch‘s winding crown, which is protected by a triangular bow, lies at 12 o’clock – as was the case with the pocket watch.
Secondly, the Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife Watch Limited Edition‘s dial is very simple. The black hour markers and minute track are printed on. Meanwhile, a finely drawn inner black ring mirrors the circular shape of the bezel. Finally, blued-steel hour and minute hands provide a splash of colour as well as high legibility. However, the watch does not display small seconds.
Thirdly, powering the movement is the ultra-thin, hand-wound 849 calibre, which measures 1.85 mm in height, with a diameter of 20.20 mm. Despite its very thin dimensions, it has 19 jewels and 123 components. Available since the 1990s, it has a frequency of 3 Hz and is capable of a 35-hour power reserve. As mentioned, its functions include only hours and minutes.
Finally, the Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife Watch Limited Edition watch is water-resistant to 30 m. Limited to 100 pieces, it is presented on a brown leather alligator strap with an 18-carat gold pin buckle. The watch comes in a specially designed Kingsman sleeve box. It will be available to purchase from the MR PORTER website from July 20th to September 6th. From then onwards, remaining watches will be available directly from Jaeger-LeCoultre online as well as in selected boutiques. The watch is priced at 29,750 euros.
