Today, Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer is releasing a limited edition of a redesigned vintage Heuer Carrera. The TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 Gold Edition marks Jack Heuer’s 88th birthday – which is today. The 18-carat rose-gold watch is a new version of the recently relaunched TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph. After all, the TAG Heuer Carrera is Jack Heuer’s favourite collection by his own creation.
Taking inspiration from Jack’s favourite Heuer watch (the iconic vintage Heuer Carrera 1158CHN), the new TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 Gold Edition recalls the story of Jack and TAG Heuer. The new dial is highly legible, and its chronograph is a homage to the classic Heuer style. Furthermore, it reflects Jack Heuer’s love of detail and precision. This is evident from numerous design details on the timepiece.
The Case
Firstly, the 42 mm case is 18-carat rose-gold, because this is Jack Heuer’s favourite material. As well as being polished and fine-brushed, the case’s matching crown and pushers are also in rose-gold. Each one of the 188 (referencing his 88 years of age) timepieces features a special numbered engraving. Furthermore, the case provides water-resistance to 100 m.
The Dial
Meanwhile, the silver opaline dial displays two applied horizontal 8s in the centre of the dial. Notably, this doesn’t only symbolise Jack’s 88th birthday, but also evokes the double infinity loop. According to Tag Heuer, this recalls his “infinitely precious legacy to the brand.” Meanwhile (as was the case with the original 1158CHN Heuer model), the two sunray brushed chronograph subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock are black. By contrast, the counter at 6 o’clock (while not originally present) subtly blends into the dial. Additionally, the new date display and Super-LumiNova-filled hands are a nod to Jack’s vision of clean and clear dial design.
The Movement
The TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 Gold Edition cites Jack’s motto –“Time never stops, why should we?” – on the oscillating mass of its in-house Heuer 02 movement. Consisting of 168 components, including a column wheel and a vertical clutch, the calibre has an 80 hour power reserve. It beats at a frequency of 4 Hz.
Finally, the black leather alligator strap, with a rose-gold pin buckle, bears Jack Heuer’s signature in gold lettering. The limited edition will be available to pre-order from tomorrow (November 19), or available in TAG Heuer boutiques and online from March 2021. It is priced at 17,450 euros.

The new Roger Dubuis Orbis in Machina departs from the conventional architecture with hands from the centre. Both "circle in the machine" and "world…
