OMEGA is adding a new selection of watches to its Constellation Gents collection – the Constellation Co-Axial Master Chronometer 41mm. The watch’s famous clawed bezels and case have been bevelled along the edges, creating a more slender look, while the crown has been subtly reshaped. The 2020 models mainly come with leather straps with anti-bacterial rubber lining.
The latest Constellation editions come in stainless steel, 18-carat Sedna gold, or a combination of both. Furthermore, the majority of the bezels use polished ceramic, aiming to evoke the original Constellation Manhattan of 1982, which achieved a similar look using sapphire glass. The ceramic bezels display Roman numerals either in OMEGA’s 18-carat Ceragold or Liquidmetal – specially developed alloys that are capable of bonding with ceramics. However, one new model has a stainless-steel bezel, and this version features blackened Roman numerals.
As well as a subtly updated case, bezel, and crown, the hands of the Constellation Co-Axial Master Chronometer 41mm are also now slimmer than before. Additionally, the watches’ new indexes evoke the Manhattan skyline – more specifically, the triangular facets of the “Freedom Tower” (One World Trade Center). Meanwhile, the date window lies at 6 o’clock, underneath the line’s signature star emblem.
Finally, the sapphire crystal caseback allows for a view of the OMEGA Master Co- Axial Calibre 8900/8901 inside (OMEGA only uses the 8901 in gold-cased versions). The METAS-certifed movements both feature a Co-Axial escapement with a free sprung-balance and silicon balance spring. The 8900/8901 are therefore highly resistant to magnetic fields. With a double barrel providing a 60-hour power reserve, the movements beat at an unusual frequency of 3.5 Hz. Finally, the movements are decorated with Arabesque Geneva stripes and blackened screws.
Most of the Constellation Co-Axial Master Chronometer 41mm watches come with a leather strap. However, wearers can also opt for a bracelet from the Constellation 39mm collection. Finally, the timepieces are water-resistant to 50 m, and their prices vary depending on the model’s materials, plus the choice of strap or bracelet. However, the starting price for the version with the steel bezel is 5,260 euros, while the steel versions with the ceramic bezel start from 5,945 euros.
