Panerai Luminor Due 3 Days Automatic Acciaio 45 mm and Luminor Due 3 Days GMT Power Reserve Automatic Acciaio 45 mm
The ‘Luminor Due’ Collection is enhanced by new models in which simplicity and sportiness are combined with the technical solutions of the P.4001 and P.4002 automatic calibers, which offer a date display, a second time zone and a power reserve indicator.

With their modern technology and their simple, minimalist lines, the new Luminor Due 3 Days Automatic (Ref. PAM00943) and the Luminor Due 3 Days GMT Power Reserve Automatic (Ref. PAM00944) combine historical and contemporary references. The two new models, created by the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel, have the ‘Luminor’ case of 45 mm in diameter, an anthracite dial and the advanced technology of the P.4001 and P.4002 automatic calibres with which they are fitted.

The ‘Luminor Due’ case of the two models has a simple look and is made of AISI 316L stainless steel. The design of the case is marked by clean lines and the characteristic bridge device which protects the winding crown in its thickness of a few millimeters. The anthracite dial, with small seconds counter and date, has the classic Panerai design and a satiné soleil finish which endows this watch with a sporty spirit. The sandwich structure of the dial, with its two superimposed discs containing the luminous beige substance of the hour markers, makes it legible under all lighting conditions as well as in the dark.

Both the Luminor Due 3 Days Automatic (Ref. PAM00943) and the Luminor Due 3 Days GMT Power Reserve Automatic (Ref. PAM00944) have a power reserve indicator. In the first, it is circular and positioned on the back, while in the second, which is also fitted with the GMT function with am/pm indication, enabling the time in a second time zone to be read, it is on the dial at 5 o’clock. These two additional functions distinguish the P.4002 from the P.4001. Both movements are automatic calibres with a power reserve of three days. They can be seen through the sapphire crystal porthole in the back. The two movements are 133⁄4 lignes in size and they have an off-centred micro-rotor made of tungsten – a material chosen for its high specific weight – and two spring barrels. The balance oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and is firmly fixed in position by a bridge with twin supports, which help to make the structure of the caliber reliable. The seconds reset mechanism stops the balance and zeroes the seconds hand when the time is adjusted, so that the watch can be accurately synchronized.

You cannot just write about a Nautilus watch without mentioning its extraordinary story. In the 1970s, Patek Philippe dared something that was risky and somehow unusual for such a traditional brand, which had, until then, exclusively focused on elegant, slim gold watches and complications – the epitome of Haute Horlogerie. Suddenly, a man called Gérald Genta (yes, the…

Japan’s rich cultural heritage evokes countless associations – yet fine watchmaking is rarely among them. This is hardly surprising: many still perceive the Far East as a challenge to the traditional world of mechanical timepieces. After all, it was Japan – more precisely, Seiko – that launched the first commercially produced quartz wristwatch, the 35SQ,…
