TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Extreme Sport & Chronograph Tourbillon: A Bold Move
TAG Heuer has unveiled the latest in its Carrera series: the Carrera Chronograph Extreme Sport and the Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Extreme Sport. These new timepieces mark a significant evolution from the brand’s 2016 series, combining TAG Heuer’s legendary racing heritage with innovative design. The watches boast a range of vibrant colours, advanced materials, and enhanced legibility, making them not just timepieces but statements.
Case Design and Construction of the TAG Heuer Carrera Extreme Sport
The 2024 TAG Heuer Carrera Extreme Sport timepieces feature a robust 44mm case crafted from gold or titanium with bezels of ceramic or forged carbon. They undergo a fine-brushed and sandblasted finish, while the hollowed sides add an aesthetic depth that reflects the adrenaline-fueled ethos of motorsport. A tachymeter bezel with grey markings enhances the modern look while ensuring that the timepieces can withstand the rigours of life. The beveled, domed sapphire crystal offers scratch resistance, coupled with anti-reflective treatment for improved visibility. Water resistance is rated at 100 metres, making these watches suitable for various activities. With improved dimensions, including a lug-to-lug length of 49.7mm and a thickness of 15.1mm, the Carrera Extreme Sport timepieces are a bold but comfortable fit, ensuring that they can be worn during intense sporting events without compromising on style or performance.
Dial Design: A Nod to Racing Heritage
Central to the new timepieces is the distinctive skeleton dial, reimagined for improved legibility. The intricate pattern featuring bold lines and grained surfaces are further links to the watches’ racing DNA. Superior legibility in low-light conditions is ensured with the utilisation of Super-LumiNova on the main handset.
The date disc is strategically located at 6 o’clock, equipped with a white Super-LumiNova date revealer that glows green in low-light conditions as well. The tourbillons however do away with the date in favour of the whirlwind complication. The dial is available in four colours, each complementing the case materials and contributing to a striking aesthetic.
Movement Technology Behind the TAG Heuer Carrera Extreme Sport
Powering the TAG Heuer Carrera Extreme Sport collection are two notable movements: the TH20-00 for the chronographs and the TH20-09 for the tourbillon models. The TH20-00 features an impressive 80-hour power reserve and incorporates a vertical clutch and column wheel, ensuring precise chronograph functionality. The TH20-09 combines those with a tourbillon while still offering a power reserve of 65 hours. Both movements are equipped with a bi-directional automatic winding system and feature accent colours corresponding to the dial. Last but not least the brand offers a five-year warranty on its mechanics.
Strap Options for the TAG Heuer Carrera Extreme Sport
The TAG Heuer Carrera Extreme Sport timepieces feature integrated rubber straps that complement the overall design of the watches. Each strap is designed for comfort and durability, inspired by the air intake systems of racing cars. The straps are offered in vibrant colours that match the dial and case accents, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the timepieces. Equipped with a grade-2 titanium folding clasp, the straps ensure a secure fit while allowing for easy adjustment, making them ideal for active wear.
Price & Availability of the TAG Heuer Carrera Extreme Sport
The TAG Heuer Carrera Extreme Sport collection is set to become available in September 2024, with prices starting at approximately 8,000 CHF for the chronograph models and reaching up to 32,000 CHF for the tourbillon variants. They are available from the brand’s website as well as in boutiques and from authorised retailers.
