Patek Philippe 5905/1A-001 Flyback-Chronograph with Annual Calendar
Geneva-based manufacturer Patek Philippe is presenting three intricate chronographs, each with a further complication. The house is showing the 5204R-011, a split-seconds chronograph with a perpetual calendar. In addition, the 5930P-001, a chronograph with a world time function. In this article, however, we present the Patek Philippe 5905/1A-001. This one offers a flyback chronograph with an annual calendar. It comes with a steel case and bracelet and thus complements the references 5905P-001 in platinum and 5905R-001 in rose gold by adding a sportier alternative.
The Stainless Steel Case
With this watch, Patek Philippe presents a Ref. 5905 chronograph with a stainless steel case for the first time. The diameter here is 42 mm with a height of 14.13 mm. The polished and satin finishes on the case and the domed bezel also remain. While the chronograph push-pieces are on the right side, the three correctors on the other side are responsible for setting the calendar. The crown, meanwhile, has only two positions: pressed for winding the watch and pulled for setting the time. Although the 5905/1A-001 is supposed to be a “sportier” alternative, it can only withstand water pressure up to 30 metres.
Olive Green Dial
This version comes with an olive green dial adorned with a sunburst motif. On it, two main hands with luminous coating in the Dauphine style indicate the hours and minutes. Around the dial are applied hour markers. The central chronograph hand also functions here as the sole seconds hand. In addition, there is a 60-minute counter at 6 o’clock, which also integrates a discreet day/night indicator. The annual calendar is composed of the three windows at 10, 12 and 2 o’clock for the day of the week, the date and the month.
The Calibre inside the Patek Philippe 5905/1A-001
Equipped with the in-house calibre CH 28-520 QA 24H, the watch offers both a flyback chronograph and an annual calendar. The chronograph integrates both a column wheel and a vertical clutch, which makes it possible to use the chronograph hand as a central second hand. The annual calendar adjusts whether a month has 30 or 31 days and only needs to be corrected once a year (on 1 March). The movement consists of a total of 402 individual parts and offers automatic winding with a rotor made of 21-karat gold. The power autonomy is a minimum of 45 hours but a maximum of 55 hours. Last but not least, the sapphire crystal case back allows a view of the ornate movement.
Price & Availability of the Patek Philippe 5905/1A-001
The watch comes with an integrated three-link bracelet. The links are polished on the outside and satin-finished on the inside. It also features a patented Patek Philippe safety folding clasp. The watch is available now and costs 51,010 euros.

With barely 40 years under its belt, Hublot is a fairly young watch brand. Despite this, it is by no means lacking in self-confidence in an industry where many of the biggest horology houses have a history that stretches back a good 150 years or more. Hublot’s self-assurance is at least partly due to the…

There is a clear division of roles in the world of watches. Watch manufactures see themselves – first and foremost at least – as watchmakers. They create beautiful products that respect the values and design codes of often centuries-old companies. At the same time, they strive to appeal to and inspire customers. Retailers, on the…
