Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 Bronzo PAM00382 – Pure Vintage
A few weeks back we mentioned the Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 Bronzo while introducing bronze watches at swisswatches. We now managed to get our hands on to a piece with very unique patina, which we found so thrilling that we dedicated it a little photo story.
Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 Bronzo
The owner bought the Panerai Bronzo PAM 382 in 2011 just after it was launched in Geneva during SIHH watch fair. Ever since then he wore it constantly during his annual beach holidays. So the watch was faced with a lot of salt water and (sun-) heat. Two factors that have some decisive impact on the patina of bronze material. The result was that the watch very soon developed a green-shining discoloration just like you can sometimes spot it on old oxidised bells or cannons.
This process was to be expected but according to the owner it happened much faster then with similar bronze watches he owns. The reason might be the bronze that Panerai used for it’s Luminor Submersible 1950 Bronzo: ‘CuSn8’ bronze which is a special alloy of copper and pure tin. On the one hand very resistant against corrosion but on the other hand predestined for a unique patina.
The heavy corrosion is clearly visible
The growing discoloration harmonizes perfectly with the dark green dial, which in 2011 was a complete new colour in the Panerai history. For a brand that’s DNA is rooted in the world of sea and diving this vintage timepiece is the perfect proof for ultimate passion in watchmaking. Many thanks to it’s owner for this great experience!

Panerai Luminor Submersible: developed in 1950 for Egyptian Navy commandos (right)
By the way, this 2011 limited edition (1.000 pieces) was a newly developed remake of the 1950 watch that was developed for Egyptian Navy commandos. It would be even more interesting how one of these watches look today!
How come a German watch brand based in Glashütte near Dresden (Saxony) chooses the Tuscany capital Florence to present their novelty? Well first of all, it is not just any novelty – it is the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Rattranpante Perpetual Calendar Handwerkskunst, a highly fascinating and complex watch that embodies artistic craftsmanship. And "artistic…
Only Watch is one of the world's most prestigious watch auctions, taking place every two years under the patronage of Prince Albert of Monaco. Shortly before the charity event was due to take place for the tenth time, demands for more transparency on social media set developments in motion that ultimately led to the auction…
Something of a curse within the Swiss watches industry is that almost every horology house lays claim to being the first of their kind: a record-breaker, an inventor, a pioneer. The same applies to the field of chronograph watches, aka a timepiece that offers precision timekeeping and measurement. And no wonder: it’s an extraordinarily vast…
Like almost every year, OMEGA also in 2018 introduces a Speedmaster Special Edition. This year they celebrate 50 years of the Apollo 8 mission and surprise with a new skeletonized Moonwatch movement for their famous ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ watch. 50 years of Apollo 8 mission – the anniversary watch Speedmaster Dark Side of…
In 2012, the young and independent watchmaker Rexhep Rexhepi founded the brand “AkriviA”. When we first discovered him two years later, he was still mostly unknown in the watch industry. But at the latest since he won a prize for best men’s watch with his Chronomètre Contemporain at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in 2018, there…
Salmon are impressive fish, facing a substantial amount of danger throughout their lives. This "danger" applies primarily to the fact that they are on the menu for a broad variety of animals along the food chain. After all, salmon aren't just nutritional (not to mention delicious) for humans alone. Whether salmon qualifies as a delicacy…
While many Swiss brands have been around for over a century, Roger Dubuis is not amongst them. In fact, the highly exclusive brand was founded less than three decades ago, back in 1995. Perhaps this is one reason for the brand producing some of the most striking, even outrageous horological creations out there. In its…
Patek Philippe has enjoyed a presence in Japan for 150 years, with watchmaking held in high esteem throughout the country. The interplay of precision and aesthetics is not simply a matter of taste, but rather an interest that is deeply rooted in Japanese culture and self-image. As a result, the Japanese market is highly important…
If you look at the half-life of CEOs in the watch industry, Angelo Bonati, who spent a total of 21 years at Panerai, 18 of them as CEO, should win the Methuselah Award. I am not aware of any CEO who has been in office for longer, but neither is anyone from a brand that…
The most important company and watch model anniversaries in 2025 and a (critical) look at the watch industry this coming year. Normally, we like to hold back on speculation at Swisswatches – and for good reason. The watch industry and the pre-owned watch market have experienced a surge in attention over the last five years,…
“Suppose my house was on fire, I had to get out as quickly as possible, and could only save one thing: it would be this watch.” Our conversation with the father and son behind the highly respected Instagram watch collector account @horology_ancienne has been going on for over an hour by the time this sentence…
Those who know me know that I have another great passion besides mechanical watches; tennis. For me, there is no more perfect tennis player in my generation than Roger Federer, because his game is unrivalled in elegance. Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, his two greatest opponents, are certainly just as remarkable in terms of sporting…
