Swisswatches Magazine On Tour: Carl F. Bucherer Patravi Scubatec – a Dive Watch with style
Swisswatches Magazine is always on the go. But in August we started an adventurous journey which took us 17 days, over 7.000 Kilometres through 17 places across Europe. Our luggage: some shorts and some watches! Departure: Munich. Destination: surfers paradise spot Ericeira – just by car and through the beautiful landscapes of Lugano, Portofino and Genua, crossing the French boarder to Monaco, Cannes and Marseille into Spain’s cities of Valencia and Sevilla to Lissabon and Ericeira in Portugal, only to mention some spots.

One of the loyal companions of the journey was the new Patravi ScubaTec from Carl F. Bucherer. The new member of the Patravi family fitted perfectly with our travel arrangements as it is a diving watch! We spent some time on the beach surfing (with our own “Swisswatches Magazine” surfboard!) and swimming in the Atlantic sea so we where able to experience the wear-ability of the watch.
One feature that stands out immediately is the unique blue colour of the dial and parts of the ceramic bezel. It had something attractive to us – reminding us every day about the beauty of the sea and it’s magical appeal. It’s a colour that was developed for Carl F. Bucherer only.
The watch is made for diver’s comfort and has a large dial and clock hands for perfect readability under water. At diving watches, the bezel is there to show the diver the remaining time he can stay under water before the air runs out. The bezel is only rotating anti clockwise. This is important for divers because should they adjust the bezel under water accidentally, time will automatically reduce and the diver will arise earlier. Better this way, then the other way around. Also the SuperLumiNova used on clock hands and indicators shines bright blue underneath the almost 4 mm thick sapphire-glass! A helium-valve will release the gas when descending or arising, which is important to protect the watchcase from too much pressure inside.
During our journey we learned that this watch is an all-round talent! We wore it during surfing or swimming in the Atlantic sea, but also took it out for a casual scroll around the epic city of Valencia! The ScubaTec is available with a rubber and steel watchband and different bezels – all made of solid ceramic. And thanks to the quick-change watchband you can switch to the steal version for more elegant evening occasions for example. Take a look on our images how well it harmonizes with a blue suit! The price of the new Carl F. Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec is 5.200,- Euro with rubber band and 5.450,- Euro with steel band.
This was only the beginning of a new series called “Swisswatches Magazine On Tour” – we will share with you more stories and watches from our journey shortly.

The 1892 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania founded watch brand Hamilton not only produced precise timepieces for the railroad and field watches for soldiers on the ground, but also precise watches for the timekeeping in the sky. However, not so much for the military but primarily for the pilots of the U.S. Airmail. That was 100 years…
From gracing the pages of Vogue to being flashed on Jennifer Anniston’s wrist in The Morning Show, the Chopard Alpine Eagle soared onto the watch scene back in 2019. Now, in 2022, attention-grabbing additions to the line are appearing in the form of the Chrono XL and Flying Tourbillon. But before discovering the watches for ourselves, let’s delve into what lies behind the Alpine…
The Radiomir, a watch classic that was originally designed for functional use, has since established itself as a style element in the everyday life of many fashionable men. It is a model that is directly linked to the brand Panerai: the cushion-shaped case, the sandwich design of the dial and typical looped lugs that were used…
Whenever Raphael Nadal sweeps across the court for hours again while wearing his Richard Mille watch, the sportsman doesn’t have to care any longer about damage that might be caused by overwinding. Thanks to Richard Milles newest invention: a declutching rotor system. Given that the Richard Mille testimonial already owns one of the only 100…
Rolex's legendary Daytona celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. As a result, our anticipation was particularly high in the run-up to what the horology house would come up with to mark this important birthday. Now the secret is out. Rolex has fundamentally revised the model line, both visually and technically. Other highlights include the new…
If one were to scour the Breitling website for the Superocean collection today, only the latest models, recently launched on grand scale, would surface. All of the older models – with the exception of the Heritage Superocean models – are nowhere to be seen. Evidently, Breitling is definitively commencing a new era for its long-standing line –…
‘Born to dare’, ‘Don’t crack under pressure’, ‘Live for greatness’ – every brand has a mantra by which it defines itself. Swiss watch manufacture Rado, aka the self-proclaimed ‘Master of Materials’, stands by the words: ‘If we can imagine it, we can make it. And if we can make it, we will.’ But, in a world in which watch brands grapple with mineral composite fibres and dabble with concrete cases, where exactly…
When it comes to measuring time, standing still is a bad idea. But it's not just the watch itself that should never stand still in the best case scenario - or, in the case of a mechanical watch, provide perfect information again after manual winding or a quick shake of the wrist and setting the…
From the clocking ticking above the platform at the railway station to the watch on your wrist, we encounter watches in our everyday life everywhere we go. At school, we’ve already learnt the necessary vocabulary, such as ‘hands’ or ‘hours’, to describe a watch dial. But upon delving deeper into the world of watches, we…
At the beginning of 2025, Hublot revised its striking Big Bang MECA-10, a timepiece renowned for its ten-day power reserve and unconventional power reserve display. The primary focus of this update was a reduction in size, from a bold 45 mm to a more restrained 42 mm in diameter. Achieving this required the development of…
First of all: the general image of the Swiss watch brand Blancpain could not be more different. The layman would probably never link Blancpain to sports watches, whereas for most connoisseurs, the ‘Fifty Fathoms’ is the epitome of the modern diving watch. At this point, some might frown doubtfully. Yet, it was all caused by…
We don’t know which fancy name drew more attention to us first: “Rexhep Rexhepi” or “AkriviA”. The former is the name of a young and very ambitious watchmaker. The latter is the unmistakable name of his 2012-founded watch brand AkriviA, which is based in Geneva and describes its core philosophy as “to present the finest…
