TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Dato & Tourbillon: Heritage Meets Modernity
During this year’s LVMH Watch Week, TAG Heuer is presenting fans with two special new chronographs. The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph pays homage to a historic model of the brand with its Dato layout and a date at 9 o’clock. Meanwhile, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon integrates the eponymous rotating cage designed to compensate for the effects of gravity. Both have a dial in a special green colour that emphasises the brand’s connection to motor racing. Powering both pieces are in-house movements stemming from the improved TH20 family.
The case of the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph has a stainless-steel case measuring 39 mm. Lug-to-lug, the watch measures 46 mm while the height is 13.86 mm. With its sides featuring a satin finish, the front flaunts a polished band that extends to the angular lugs and adds a touch of elegance. On the side are historically inspired pump pushers, which control the chronograph. There is also an easy-grip crown bearing the TAG Heuer shield.
The domed sapphire crystal harks back to historical references that featured hesalite. Its shape improves the readability of the displays and blends smoothly with the case. At the same time, the movement can be seen through the case back. The water resistance is 100 metres.
A dial reminiscent of motor racing
The dial is in Teal Green, a special colour that made its debut with the Carrera Green Special Edition in 2021. The colour underlines the brand’s connection to racing, as it is reminiscent of the typical racing green used to paint British sports cars in international races up to 1970. The dial features a circular brushed finish, which is also visible on the ring in which the applied indices are embedded. Both the dot indices and the polished hands use a narrow strip of luminous material for legibility around the clock. Last but not least, a minute track winds around the dial of the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph.
The 30-minute counter at three o’clock is characteristic of the Cyclop design. On the opposite side, the date window sits at an unusual 9 o’clock position. Elsewhere, both the TAG Heuer logo and the words ‘Carrera’ and ‘Swiss’ are imprinted on the dial.
The TH20-07 Calibre
Inside of the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph is the TH20-07 calibre, which is based on the in-house Heuer 02. The chronograph with column wheel is characterised by its weekend-proof power reserve of 80 hours. The TH20 incorporates a number of technical improvements such as an optimised bidirectional winding system. The winding rotor takes the form of the TAG Heuer shield. This movement offers an extended warranty of 5 years.
TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon additionally integrates a tourbillon at 6 o’clock. The case measures 42 mm in diameter with a lug-to-lug length of 48.6 mm. However, the overall height is slightly greater at 14.33 mm. Here too, the sapphire crystal back reveals the inner workings of the watch. The water resistance is 100 metres.
The dial is also in Teal Green and has the same circular finish. However, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon has both a 30-minute and a 12-hour counter. At the same time, it foregoes a date. The tourbillon with a triangular cage is located at 6 o’clock. It rotates around its own axis once a minute and thereby compensates for the effects of gravity.
The TH20-09 Calibre
The in-house TH20-09 calibre is based on the Heuer 02 and features a column-wheel chronograph. The bidirectional winding system with the rotor in the shape of the TAG Heuer shield gathers energy up to a maximum power reserve of 65 hours. Once again, the manufacture also offers a 5-year guarantee on this more complex movement.
Bracelet, Price & Availability
Both the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph and the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon come on the same black alligator leather strap. The latter secures itself to the wrist using a polished folding clasp with two pushers and a TAG Heuer shield. The price for the models is 6,400 and 23,500 Swiss francs respectively.
